CORNERS draws threads between different European communities through arts projects with a difference! The stories shared and what is created will be passed on and told in another town or city on the edges of Europe. These shared stories are not only meaningful, but also have the power to connect countries as well as people.
CORNERS shows that we all share similar hopes, issues or concerns; from politics to social welfare, financial worries to getting the chance to be creative.
So far, it has travelled to Croatia, England, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden and we’re delighted to announce it will be taking place in Shotton, Horden and Blackhall between 19 – 30 September as part of East Durham’s CORNERS Festival.
From sharing stories to being involved in our final event, there’s lots of opportunities for everyone to be involved. Why not take part in our FREE public workshops on Friday 22 September in Horden, Shotton and Blackhall and see how you can get involved.
Get involved in a games tournament with a difference! We’re looking for games, old and new, and sharing games from across Europe, to create a new kind of playground for Horden. There are lots of chances for everyone to play as a team or as an individual over the festival… but who will be the Playground champion?
Share your surprising stories of Shotton and help reveal the hidden treasures of the village to create a special walking tour of Shotton. Over the CORNERS Festival, there are lots of activities to take part in including gentle walking tours and a family fun day. Visit the Safari Here artists in their alternative travel agency at Shotton Community Centre and make your own mark on the trail!
Tell us your tales of Blackhall and share your special places in the village. We’re planning lots of chances for people to get together and celebrate your stories. Conversations, stories and live music will be shared in a unique live radio broadcast across Europe and Eurovision song night at Blackhall Community Centre and you can experience stories from across Europe at our vintage tea party!
CORNERS East Durham is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, Arts Council England, East Durham Creates, The Esmée Fairburn Foundation, The Community Foundation, and The Big Lottery Fund.
